Renowned historians and scholars Dr. Larry McClellan and Dr. Glennette Tilley Turner will lead the presentation, offering invaluable insights into the Underground Railroad’s impact on DuPage County and its broader significance in American history.
Dr. McClellan, an esteemed historian and founding faculty member of Governors State University is a widely recognized authority on the Underground Railroad in Illinois. He was appointed in 2023 to the Underground Railroad Task Force. The focus of the task force was to unite preservation projects and educational initiatives to create a comprehensive statewide history of Illinois’ 200 known Underground Railroad sites.
Dr Turner, a historian, educator, and author, has dedicated much of her career to researching and writing about the Underground Railroad. Her first book, The Underground Railroad in DuPage County, Illinois, was published in 1978, and she has since continued to publish extensively, including her most recent book, The Underground Railroad in Illinois.
